1. In the US, people who wanted to sell parts of their companies and people who wanted to buy those "stocks" all met together in an area of New York City called Wall Street. Find a label New York City on the map provided.
2. To add to the Great Depression, the weather turned bad. The Great Plains of the US has so little rain that the winds picked up dust and blew it back and forth in huge dust storms. The middle of America became known as the Dust Bowl. Unable to make a living on their dry farms, thousands of Americans left the Dust Bowl states and headed to California. These emigrants were called "Okies", because although many hailed from Arkansas, Missouri, or Texas, one out of every five came from Oklahoma. Label the following states on your map: Arkansas, Texas, Missouri, Oklahoma, and California.
3. Herbert Hoover was the president when the Great Depression started. But Franklin Delano Roosevelt was elected in first election during the Depression. He promised America a "New Deal" that would reverse the Great Depression. The President of the US lives and works in Washington, D.C. Find and label Washington, D.C. on your map.
